YG2k 's Match Report

First game in Match day 2 pitched YG2K against the defending champion of the league - ESPZEN Black.
For the 2 games last season, ESPZEN Black has beaten YG2K on both occasions and
YG2K knows very well that ESPZEN Black is a very good team with technically skilled players that play a very good passing game.
In the pre-match session, Coach challenged the team to play a high-tempo pressing game from up high to disrupt ESPZEN Black's momentum.
Once the staring whistle was blown, this was exactly what the team did. Jonan and Arjun tried to press fast and gave little time/space for the defenders to make the best pass.
Edison and Ryan tried to cover for each other and closed up any gap if ESPZEN managed to play the ball upfield.
The boys managed to intercept the balls a few times , and when they do, Jonan and Arjun combined well to put pressure on the defenders by attacking the flank with intent and pace.
The breakthrough came early.
Jonan produced a marauding run on the left wing, riding two challenges on his way, and then picked out a spot on the left side of the goal as the defenders backtracked.
He struck the ball with power and precision and it was 1-0.
The high pressing game did left the YG2K defenders exposed at times and ESPZEN countered with their passing game.
On one occasion , the YG2K's defence was breached and ESPZEN's striker put in a powerful shot.
Lester did well to dive and parry the ball out for a corner.
Edison and Ryan also did well in other occasions to hold the defence well and cleared the ball.
Arjun chased tirelessly for the ball and was adventurous upfront when the team was attacking.
He positioned himself well a few times but he was closed up quickly by the ESPZEN defense and could not get a shot in.
The lively boy was not to be denied though, as he latched on to intercept a pass at the midfield area, charged with pace in the penalty area and
poked in ahead of the defenders and score a goal from the right.
Jonan added another goal from range.
Liyaka and Abraham came in and they bought in energy and pace upfront. Eha came in add some defensive presence.
In one of the attack, Jonan charged down the right wing and squared the ball to Liyaka , who poke the ball past the keeper.
Liyaka added another goal using his powerful left foot through the free kick.
The scoreline looked flattering as ESPZEN should have scored a few goals. But Lester was in great form today and he kept out all the shots and a wonderful goalkeeping display by the boy.
It was a stunning attacking display and a very good team effort by the boys.

ESPZEN SS Black 's Match Report

Fixtures were a little unkind to ESPZEN Black this week, with two super tough games against the 2nd and 3rd team of the J League Season 1. YG2K and then Chelsea. A very late pull out from the squad meant we were 7 players, and the team welcomed Archie playing his first game with the Black team in the J League.

Pre match team talk before Kick Off, a coach lee sensed a slight lack of concentration & focus from the team - which was a little unsual... nevetheless the team talk was centred around a) being the champion team from Season 1 does not give the team the "right" to be champions in Season 2. b) everyone wants to beat the champions c) its harder to stay champions in Season 2 than to become champions of season 1.

YG2K raced out of the traps, and were first to most of the balls, pressed the team very hard and defended very well breaking down our attacks. Too often we lost the ball going forward which left Archie exposed at the back to deal with 2 players running at him... This was a theme throughout this game, and indeed throughout the afternoon.... our playmakers (left and right) need push forward but work back & squeeze when we are out of possession.

Some key player performance stats below:-

Name Games Played on pitch Total Successful Pass Total Unsuccessful Pass Total Shots on target Total Shots off target Total Tackles Total Dribbles
Abbas 1 6 2 0 1 2 2
Adam 1 9 3 0 1 2 3
Ben 1 8 3 1 0 1 1
Ethan 1 12 4 3 0 12 3
Kai 1 5 1 2 0 3 2
Kyra 1 8 2 1 0 1 2
Archie 1 7 3 0 0 6 0
Grand Total 7 55 18 7 2 27 13

As a team whilst total passes of 55 was below our previous average it is still a good number and the incomplete passes was also less than the White Sands match... however 7 shots on target with no return, shows the YG2K keeper made some great saves.

Overall its important for the young team to understand that as a team, every single player in the squad has to be fired up and ready to play.... if we are not ready to play and the other team is fired up, we will be second to every ball, we will be caught in possession, and our passing game will be restricted as players not moving into space. Regardless of technical ability, and tactical understanding, a key ingrediant in football is determination... and every player must have the desire to do their very best.

After the game, the team self reflected on the game, and concluded in most instances that they hadnt done their best and they could have worked harder....

Captain Kyra awarded MoTM to Kai, for coming out of goal, and showing lots of heart to try and get the team back into the game... Kyra also mentioned Kai made some good strong tackles. The other player Kyra was considering for MoTM was Ethan who worked hard for the team and made the highest number of passes and tackles.

Great play by YG2K, your team worked very hard, with lots of high tempo energy.
