Barker Boys 's Match Report

In a return match of a fixture last played on Valentine’s Day, the Barker Boys came into this game eager to correct a narrow loss to the F17 Cubs. Unfortunately, the physicality, fitness and skill of the F17 Cubs came out tops again this time around, handing the Barker Boys a 4-1 defeat.

Played again in the tropical humidity one would expect from a 1:35PM kick off, the game got off to a tentative start as Coach Ricky started with a team of Gareth Tong as goalie, Valens and Valentin Lee as defenders, complimented by a midfield duo of Timothy Chin and Shawn Ho, and Zachary Teo-Krihnamuti leading the line.

The game came alive when the lethal F17 Cubs scored 2 goals in quick succession. While it was apparent F17 Cubs had the early upper hand, the Barker Boys defended bravely, with Valens Lee mostly blocking the path for most of the opponent’s attacks. Gradually, the attacking momentum of Barker Boys picked up and their press of the F17 Cubs paid off in the 15min as Timothy Chin slotted in a shot after the F17 goalkeeper had partially parried away a shot from Zachary.

After pulling a goal back, the Barker Boys tried industriously to seek for the equaliser as Coach Ricky brought in subs Dan Choy and Dylan Leong to rest the tiring legs of the starters. However a powerful shot from outside the penalty box reinstated F17 Cub’s 2 goal lead and with fatigue setting in, F17 scored a forth goal in the closing minutes to seal the game.

It was yet another brave performance in the unforgiving sun for the boys, as the team waits for another week to look for possibly a win since the last day of the season.  That said, the team spirit and individual performance is improving with each week, with Coach Ricky singling out man of the match Valens Lee for a commanding presence in defence, while Dan Choy was also mentioned for his good positional sense in the field.

F-17 Cubs 's Match Report

F17 Cubs' one and only game of the day with 4-1 victory over Barker Boys.

Nadia took the first chance coming in the fifth minute from a well weighted through pass from Shane. Nadia completed her second goal of the day in the seventh minute with a good run to the near postbut took the shot to the far post leaving the goalkeeper stranded after a superb individual effort from Shariz
in the middle of the park.

Nazhan played a significant role in goal making two incredible diving saves but was beaten on the third
when the third shot took a wicked deflection of an opponent and went into goal in the 13th minute.

The referee made a commendable decision by blowing the whistle for a quick water break for the kids in the 15th minute mark. Ibrahim's well-timed tackle on the right followed by a quick pass to Raiyan Aniq who took a beautiful shot past the goalkeeper in the 19th minute.

Leo continued to make his presence felt by scoring after Shariz cleared the ball from the back creating a counter-attack three minutes before the final whistle. A well deserved 4-1 win for the F17 Cubs for a good performance individually and as a team. Keep it up!
