Superb Juniors 2.0 's Match Report

A mouth watering top of the table clash. Sporting Lisbon (SL)Superb Juniors (SJR). Previous encounter ended in stalemate.

SJR was missing their sweeper Nyqil who was away on International Duty started with Matin and Adam at the back, flanked by Ikmal on the left and Vishal on the right. Vivek started the match as the lone striker upfront with Along as the link up man in midfield. Aniq Matin as usual holding fort between the goalposts. Key word for the boys for this encounter- PRESS!

As early as the 3rd minute, Vivek prodded the ball home from close range after hard work from Along winning the ball and beating two players before shooting the ball. Although the shot was blocked, Vivek was on hand to finish the move.

Two minutes later, Adam won the ball in defense and made a quick pass to Vishal on the right flank. Vishal then started a slalom run and dribbled past one....two..three...four players and the GK before calmly stroking the ball home into the unguarded net.

In the 9th minute, Vivek received the ball on the left flank, shielded it and beat two players before crossing the ball to Ikmal. Ikmal controlled the ball beautifully before scoring the third goal! 3-0 to SJR.

Halftime brought much relief to the boys for a quick water break before continuing the game. With the break came a split performance from the boys who appeared sluggish.

Passes went astray and a lack of communication among the boys resulted in a lot of balls lost in the passing transition.

From a corner SL scored when none of the SJR players picked up a loose ball and left it for an SL to slam it home. The goal gave much hope for SL players who tried to get back in the game. But the backline of Faiyaz and Adam and Aniq Matin stood firm.

Aniq Matin had to leave the game early and his namesake Matin took his place between the sticks and prodiced a fantastic one handed save in teh dying minutes of the game.

Special mention to Adly who battled thru his swollen wrist to play in the match until a fall caused him to be substituted. Aniq battling thru after his long lay off came close to scoring on three different occasions. With more matches, his sharpness will be back. Adrian Danish who came on to stretch the SL defences with his speed. MOTM goes to Mohamed Matin for his assured display at the back and confident performance between the sticks.

SJR players just need to work on their communication and to eradicat their lapses to ensure a granstand finish. Four more games to go! Next up ESPZEN!
