ESPZEN SS Black 's Match Report

Todays match was all about individual challenges for the players, to firstly understand their objective, secondly remember it and thirdly to execute. In addition players also had the opportunity to play an unfamiliar position, and sometimes a position they have yet to experience in a match situation.

The results of the above was interesting....

The positives

1) 9 out of 11 players or 9 out 10 players excluding the keeper - was recorded as an assist or goal scorer... rotation allowed every player to experience the game in the final third.

2) Players were challenged and forced to think about their new position and what it means.

"Coach wow there are so many options to think about when you have the ball as a defender" said Nils at half time playing defender for the first time. An excellent comment, and observation by Nils and a real eye opener for him.

3) Players had the chance to see the game from different perspectives.

4) Issac Pizano - man of the match for making some great tackles... when asked to play defense, great opportunity to improve your individual defending skills.

The challenges for players

a) Playing new positions, of course familarity with that position and the intelligence of playing in that position may not have been acquired or understood >>> this will result in a drop in performance levels

b) Players individual performance may have dropped due to the unfamiliarity - nothing to worry about this is the learning process....

Summary

We struggled to keep possession at times, and to solve problems and exploit the areas of the pitch least defended.... but the green shoots of knowledge began to emerge throughout the game as players started to analyse the pitch on occassions and move the ball from one side to another to stretch the opposition.

Three candidates for MotM today judged by the team Jan Tze, Charlie and Pizano and captain Nils awarded to Pizano for showing determination in defense, and some intelligent running off the ball...

We will continue to provide players with individual and team challenges and problem solving opportunities in the forthcoming games.
