Barker Boys 's Match Report
Yet another wet afternoon which momentarily threatened to postpone the match. Fortunately, the weather cleared up and after a 15 minute delay, the Boys were ready for their second game.
Coach Gary's plan was to focus on team work and getting the team to play together.
From the start, the Boys got off to a quick start, putting in a couple of goals within the first five minutes. The movement from the midfielders especially down the wings put pressure on the opponents and resulted in quite a few goals.
Even the defenders got into the act, with Valens taking a speculative lob from near the halfway line that ended up in the back of the net.
In order to spread equal play time amongst the players, half of the starting line was substituted midway through the first half. That however did not disrupt the rhythm of the game.
By half time, the score was 8-0 in favour of the Barker Boys, with Aiman grabbing a quick hattrick before the end of the half.
The second half almost reflected what happened the previous week. The opposition was more organized and made fewer mistakes. Felix (on the left) and Marc (on the right) saw plenty of the ball and took the opportunity to dribble through the defence several times. Nevertheless, it took until the last 12 minutes of the half before the team managed to score another 3 more goals.
The various substitutions during the course of the game might have disrupted some of the rhythm and flow of the game, but overall the players did all that was asked of them.
Both keepers were reliable in goal and made several saves when the opposition broke through towards the end of the second half and kept a clean sheet.
The defenders made important interceptions to stop attacks and tried to spread play down the wings or through the middle. There is still work to be done to improve the communication and passing at the back, but this will come with time.
The midfielders linked up well with the wingers and tried to release them down the wings whenever opportunity arose.
The forwards took their chances well especially in the first half.
The Man-of-the-Match award goes to Daniel Choy. This was his first game and he showed great improvement and made a few timely tackles at the back to stop the opposition.
